DEFINITION OF AYUVEDA

«Hitahitam sukham dukham ayustaya hitahitam!+Manamcha tachcha yatroktam ayurveda sa uchyate!»

(Charaka Samhita)

Thus ayurveda is the science which passes on knowledge about life, with special reference to its definition and description of happy and unhappy life ( personal), useful and harmful life ( social), long and short spans of life and sich other material along with their properties and actions which which promote and demote the longevity of life.

in the words of Charaka, the great scholar of Ayurveda, there are four dimensions of «Ayu» (life):

  1. HITAYU=  All those things are beneficial for life. Practices that makes a life socialy useful and advantageous or in other words, social being.
  2. AHITAYU = Practices that are hazardous for life. Practices those are harmful for the self and the society, instanteneously or eventually.
  3. SUKHAYU = Paractices leading to a healthy and happy life.
  4. DUKHAYU = Practices leading to sufferngs or unhealthy, miserable and unhappy life.

    What is Ayurveda

The word Ayurveda is made up two basic terms «AYU» and » VEDA«.

AYU means life and VEDA means knowledge or science, thus the word Ayurbeda stands for the science of life. Ayurveda is the science and art of living.

Vedas are oldest recorded wosdom on earth. There are 4 vedas – RIG VEDA, SAMA VEDA, YAYUR VEDA and ATHARVA VEDA. Ayurveda is the UPADEVA ( sub veda) of ATHARVA VEDA. So it is oldest and best developed science of humanity. it is p`robably the oldest healt care system in the world wich roots back over 5000 years into the Vedic era.

OBJECTIVE OF AYURVEDA

Ayurveda aims at the prevention of diseases, promotion of healt, longevity of life and the cure of deseases. As such it is not concerned only to the cure of disease but also aims to relieve humanity from all categories of miseries viz. physiccal, mental, emotional and spiritual. this clarifies that ayuveda is not just a system of medicine but deals with all the aspects of life.

two main objectives of ayurveda are as follows:

  1. To mantain and promote the positive health of healthy individuals
  2. To cure the disease of diseased person.
